Corporate Decision Making: HiPPO

I just listened to Andrew McAfee of MIT’s Sloan School of Managment and Harvard Business’ HBR Voices in a webcast presented by Oracle on Big Data.

Late in the webcast Mr (presumably Dr) McAfee stated that decision making based on Highest Priced Person’s Opinion (HiPPO) was less effective and should be transitioned to a more egalitarian approach for decision making based on knowledge garnered by people referred to in the presentation as “geeks” and based on the systems they design that extract information from the ridiculous volumes of data that most companies now collect.

The presentation is great and there are a ton of other informative and thought-inducing comments touched upon in the less-than-thirty-minutes webcast.

Once it’s archived I’ll update this post.

Here’s a link to the presentation.  You must register with On24.com to be able to see it.
