Not Spam, Not Phishing

I got an email on one of my domains today.

It was sent to an account I don’t have so it fell into a catchall account for that domain and was forwarded to an account I monitor.

The email informed me that the sender had hacked some account of mine, monitored me accessing sexually explicit sites, and threatened to tell all my contacts.

The “hacker” felt $890 was the right price for my silence.

This is not spam, nor is it a phishing email. This is extortion.

Spam is unsolicited but potentially valid email.

Phishing emails require some method of compromise (e.g., redirection to a site that would side-load malware, a request for credentials, a lure to install malware).

This is simply extortion.

Nothing to do here but disregard it.
